The slowclap community draws a distinction between projects built with AI assistance and products built with AI authorship. For example, utilizing an LLM to generate reference photos for a piece of art would fall under the realm of AI assistance whereas applying targeted edits to a piece of LLM generated art and releasing it as your own would not.
As a general rule, if the AI generated portions of your final product's material had instead been generated by another person, and using their work in this way would infringe on their intellectual property, that work would be considered AI authored.
The 
handcrafted label applies to slowclap itself and anyone who is limiting their usage of AI and AI adjacent products to at most provide assistance. For example, using AI as a learning tool, or to assist in the research, drafting, editing, or debugging of your core product, including tools like dictation, proofreading, and translation tools to help augment or extend your own work rather than generate it for you.
While this policy may not be as ironclad as many would prefer, given the ubiquity of LLM enabled products and generated content, and the increased difficulty in determining the authorship of a particular source, this policy aims to draw a line between intention and tooling, in a way that will remain consistent regardless of how these tools evolve in the future.
This policy is opt in, as those passionate about authoring their own creative projects are far more likely to self identify than those presenting AI authored work as their own. Not self-identifying as handcrafted will not impact your discoverability. The label exists to allow subscribers who want to support non-AI authored work to have a means to filter on its presence.
Any members found to be abusing the handcrafted label and passing off AI authored work as handcrafted will have the label removed, and repeat offenders may have their payout eligibility restricted. This policy is intentionally written to afford nuance to those still retaining ownership and craft over their work. Please be honest when identifying yourself as a handcrafted creator.
